C4 Grand Picasso 1.6HDi - Codes P0220 & U1208

Hi,

The car decided to throw a couple if wobblers this week, it started earlier in the week when the automatic handbrake light came on and then the ESP warning came on. It reset once id switched the engine off while holding the handbrake on.

Yesterday it did it and took a bit more to clear but was then fine for 350motorway miles. About ten miles from home the same warnings came up again, then it just cascaded from there. Loads of warnings came up and the car wouldnt drive. I think the one that caused that was gearbox faulty warning. I cleared all the faults and it got me home, on the way the handbrake and esp faults came on again.

I rescanned and the faults that were listed were

P0220 - Accelerator pedal signal
U1208 - Fault in communication with the engine management ECU or with the drive train interface ECU
P0401 - (Not overly concerned about this as the EGR is blanked and this pops up occasionally)
P1351 - (again not bothered about this one

I cleared these and drove the last 80 miles of the journey without a problem, had a bit of a google last night and there seems to be a couple of things people point to

1. Damaged wires in the loom behind the battery
2. Battery on the way out
3. Accelerator pedal switch

The cars just coming up for 130000 miles and as far as i know its the original battery and accelerator switch.

Any advice on what direction to go first?

Low Power when pulling off

Hi there. I never like my first post to be a problem solving one but hey, thanks for having me!

I just bought a 2008 C4 Grand Picasso 1.8 Petrol. it's a great car, very practical, but the day after I bought it I pulled out of my driveway and it lost power for about 5-6 seconds, then it came back and I carried on driving. It's done this almost every time since, sometimes for 2 seconds, sometimes for 10 seconds, which can be dangerous when pulling into a road. It was a private sale so the seller and I are trying to work things out, but I need to try and resolve this.

I had some error codes on my own cheap code reader at various different times (P0171, P0170, P0027). Its been to a Citroen garage locally and they got none of these, only a code for a Richness Regulation Fault. They reset the ECU and couldn't replicate the problem, at least not to a significant extend to help with a diagnoses. I don't know if any of these are actually related, although Google suggests they might be.

One solution I found was to replace the Brake Pedal switch. As it was only £10 I tried this, and actually the car worked perfectly for 24 hours. However, the problem came back again, but only very minor this time. It suggests to me that I was on the right track, but I just don't know what to do from this point. I might be taking it back to the garage later this week so they can have it for a few days to check it out, but if they can't replicate the problem very much then it's a struggle.

Any ideas what else it could be? I'm no mechanic (even though it seems electrical) but I don't mind getting stuck in to replace sensors etc.

Thanks!

Lexia Access Code

Hi i am currently running diagbox version 7.57

I am wanting to recalibrate the clutch, but dont seem able to as when i try to access that portion it asks for an "access code" I spoke to the person i bought the software from who was very helpful and he believes the car has not had a software update and needs this first before i can proceed with a recalibration. He said the access code is a "d" number or a technician number required to update the software once that is imputted it should download?

Apparently there was a tsb for this gearbox and an update to help with the gearbox judder..... i maybe clutching straws (excuse the pun) as in reality it would seem like a new clutch is ultimately what will be needed but i really want to try this first

Does anyone have this or know of another way to recalibrate using the lexia.

Any help would be grateful as im very keen to get to the bottom of this

Bare with me as im very new to diagbox and lexia.

Changing 12v power socket from Ign control to permanent power

One (of many IMHO!) daft things that Citroen have imposed upon us is that ALL 3 12v power sockets are ignition controlled on my C4GP 2017 Flair - what about those of us that wish to leave devices powered with the ignition off (dash cams, phone chargers etc., I've also got an electric cool box with it's own battery drain protection that could safely be left on!).

On previous cars I've had it's been possible to swap a fuse position to change from ignition to permanent power for 12v sockets, but with such woefully lacking (and obviously out of date) manuals associated with the car it's not a documented option, so just wondering if anyone here had any idea if it's possible.

With Citroen seemingly making almost Ad-Hoc changes between builds (no two cars seem to be identical in features and functions!) I'm not holding my breath for a definitive answer, but a few clues might help, I'm well aware of the (alleged) fuse numbers/positions covering the various 12v sockets, but with the diabolical accessibility to fuse boxes it's not easy to check vacant positions with a meter to look for alternative positions myself.

Vehicle electrics are a COMPLETE mystery to dealers (and have been for many decades since the long lost days of mechanics being knowledgeable rather than just 'fitters'!), so I won't even waste my breath asking them!

Write-off and Removing Fuel

Hi

I have owned a 2008 C4 Picasso 1.6hdi VTR+ from new and have had her fully serviced by Citroen for the entire 192,300 miles. Yes you saw that right. No need for specsavers. The rear pads were originally changed at 155,000 miles and the tech kept them as he was so shocked... Tee hee hee.

Anyway, just over a week ago, I was leaving our development when on a mini roundabout, I was struck from the left by a villager who failed to give way. The old adage about accidents happening close too home is very clearly true and correct .

The Third Party got out of his car and I immediately knew he was not well. His first comment was "I didn't see you". In shock myself I replied " that's obvious as you hit me". He then explained he had Parkinson's. It later transpired he had lost his wife a couple of month earlier after well over 60 years. So don't I feel a Bast***d.

Anyway. My car was inspected and it as been decided it's an uneconomic repair....

So my conundrum is. I did a full fill of diesel the same day of the accident. I have searched the Internet and cannot find a way of removing the fuel. Under the bonnet, when we finally prised it open. I find to the left of the engine two pipes. One white and larger than the green one. Now clearly these are fill and return, or am I wrong? My idea was to 3D print a custom connector and attach a pipe to a container. Problem is, does anyone know which is feed and return! (White or green) is this the correct method?. Is it worth the hassle?

Onto a much nicer topic, on Saturday The boss and I were driving home when we saw a stunning Car on a forecourt. Not wishing too make a knee jerk purchase we dropped in and two hours later we now own,

Can you guess? ( A Drum Roll)

A Dec 2016 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2.0 Blue HDi Falir 150HP in a gorgeous Dark Blue and Silver roof rails.

Any help with the fuel removal would be greatly appreciated

Depolution Light - total loss of power/black smoke resulting in breakdown C4 VTS 2.0HDI 2005

I have recently suffered a breakdown and we are struggling to solve the route cause of the problem.

I was travelling along the a46 and suffered a loss of power, no engine revs at all, looked in the rear veiw mirror to see black smoke pouring out of the exhaust.

As a note there had been intermittent very brief losses of power which resolved itself instantly in the months leading up to this event.

The RAC found the following error codes -

Diagnostic Codes
RAC DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
System Type: ENGINE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC & INFORMATION Name: RHR - DCM3.4 (DW10BTED4) - 2.0L - 100 (136)
DTC: P1445,Maximum additive in particular emission filter reached
DTC: P1471,EGR valve
DTC: P1536,Brake pedal contact coherence
DTC: P0087,Fuel pressure; below limit value
DTC: P1198,unknown

With the help of our friend who is a mechanic we have replaced the EGR valve,, cleaned the DPF these codes are now clear.

We still have these codes -

P1198 Pump rotor control underfuelling sid801 - diesel high pressure monitoring. Flow regulator at stop.
P0087 diesel high pressure monitoring. Pressure below the referance value (leak).

however we are still left with the problem of low fuel pressure.
So we have changed the fuel filter which was filthy, still no fix so we have replaced the fuel regulator and still no fix!

I'm really reluctant to spend more money and after researching the problems related to the remaining codes I'm struggling to find an avenue to go down to resolve the fuel pressure related issue.

Can anyone offer any advice please on what next steps I should take?

MP3 Play Order (C4 Grand Picasso)

Hi,
My apologies if this has been discussed already, I've searched but can't find anything.
I have just bought a C4 Grand Picasso (2017 build) and don't seem to be able to get the mp3s to play in the correct order from a memory stick.

The top level in my memory stick has a folder for each artist and then within each artist folder is a folder for each album containing the mp3s. Each mp3's filename is <track>-<title>.mp3 and each is correctly tagged with respect to artist, title, track number, etc but they always play in alphabetical order based on the title encoded within the mp3, ie: the track number is ignored.

I then changed the title of all my tracks (ie: the one encoded in the mp3) to include the track number, ie: to be the same as the filename, but this made no difference.

What I did notice was that when playing some of the tracks, some just displayed the title and others the <track>-<title>, which suggested that the tracks might have been cached with some names being updated to the new mp3 titles.

Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone know of a way around it, ie: can you clear the cache (if there is one), I've removed the memory stick and re-inserted it but this made no difference, I could move all the tracks in to a new sub folder to force it to reread everything but I don't want to add another folder level as this would make navigation a bit more cumbersome.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Laggy touchscreen and illogical options

Had my new-to-me 16 plate C4GP Ex+ for a couple of weeks now. I think it's a 'facelift' model as it has the '3D' lights. Overall I'm rather happy with it, especially the late 50's average MPG and even more on a run, but it has a few quirks I'm struggling to get my head round.
1. How long should it be from starting to the lower screen being 'ready', i.e. not having the Citroen logo on it? I can wait half a minute or more! And when it IS on, it's extremely 'laggy', so much so that you think it hasn't registered your touch and are about to do it again when it finally responds. I'm talking about the buttons either side of the lower screen, but also the screen itself, especially in the sat-nav module which takes an absolute age to acknowledge a touch.
2. The two screens software doesn't seem to be that well thought out. I mean, what's the point in having the nav map being able to be displayed in the upper screen if you have to have it on the lower screen too? And 'Photos' is a bit of a misnomer isn't it? It should be labelled 'Photo', since it will only display a single image. Yes, you can set up the lower screen to cycle through a slideshow of several images (although you'll have to re-select them each time you turn the ignition on, as they are not 'remembered' when the car is locked), but only ONE image can be shown in the upper screen, and even then the car regularly 'forgets' and reverts to the default image anyway.
3. My car will 'global lock' by holding down the lock button, but holding down unlock doesn't lower the windows as per other posters here have reported. Is this 'model-specific'?
4. The 'mood lighting' is laughable - it seems to be constrained to just two tiny LED's in the roof console which are so weak they don't even cast a dim glow down into the car. Any way of software-reconfiguring them to light the footwell lights too at a low wattage?

Incidentally I bought it from a 'car supermarket' (Motorpoint) with 5030 miles on it. Never used supermarket before and found it a surprisingly pain-free experience - they gave me a price on my p/x, left me alone to consider it, negotiated a deal when I said it wasn't high enough, and had the car ready to go in two days. I'm not anything to do with them, just happy to recommend.

c4 1.6hdi coupe smoking on startup

Hi my c4 chucks out a little smoke on startup and sounds rough until it warms up. I've plugged it into my laptop and it tells me that glow plugs aren't present and although the pre heat relay checks out it also tells me that an additional heating relay is open circuit. Firstly any idea where I'd find this relay (as my Haynes manual is useful as always) and secondly if I could have people's thoughts on the cars issues.. Thanks

Steering wheel offset

The wheel in the straight ahead position is offset approximately 10* to the right.
The new car dealership salesman said adjusting it would " only make things worse " !
Really?.
I would imagine it's just a matter of adjusting the track rods equally........has anyone done it and found something tricky in the process?.

Hi, it appears my top screen is slipping down and the lower figures / milage A/C temp are partially hidden, its slightly tilted to the right, the top of the screen looks OK so it may be the display settings rather than the actual display moving - any help would be great, thanks

C4 Hatchback replace bumper

Hi guys/gals, Im considering/would like to change the front bumper of my 2007 C4 cool 1.6 hatch, its a 5 door version. It has the standard mk1 front bumper, I would like something a bit sportier/different, however I can't seem to get hold of a front bumper unless its for the coupe.

Can any of you modders etc give me any pointers in whether or not I can use a coupe bumper, or any other c4 bumper. If possible where can I buy 1.

Basically after toying with part exing my C4 I've decided to keep it and fix it up, possible get it re mapped, new back box and exhaust, 18" wheels, new front maybe possible back end etc though I don't know where to start.

I would be getting any parts installed at local garage.

I've just had my engine light problem repaired, (anti pollution fault) I posted in another thread, it was for a faulty purge valve, it turned out to be wires in the purge loom needed repaired. Now to hopefully zaz the car up.

Any info or help is much appreciated.
