I have had this car since January but just recently it has developed a strange noise from the engine. It can only be described as a "pinking" sound which I know is not possible on a diesel. The noise only occurs when the engine is under load and cannot be heard on tick over or by revving the engine. It is usually loudest between 2000-3000 RPM. The car has had a new Dual mass flywheel, clutch and master cylinder about 6000 miles ago all of which were OEM. Since the noise started I have put injector cleaner through the tank, I have done an oil and filter change with the correct spec of oil. I have also changed the bottom pulley and drive belt in case it was them but the noise is still there. The car has no loss of power and there are no faults showing up in Lexia. I also thought it could be a damaged camshaft but then the noise would be there all the time. I have asked a few people who just say that diesels make this noise and I worry too much but I don't want to cause any damage to the engine and I know the noise has only started recently.
