2016 Facelift 1.6hdi 120 - Replacing Rear Brake Pads - DIY

Replaced my rear brake pads today after 41000 miles.

I know a few on here were not sure what to do re electronic handbrake.

There are two options for pads/discs and mines were the larger of the two (290mm). I got the eicher pads (101545999) from ecp at an offer price of £22.

Here is a few notes from me re how it's done, it's aimed at someone who has changed rear brake pads before on manual handbrake cars. This is not a full step by step for a complete novice.

No special tools or computer trickery were required other than an e12 female torx socket and piston windback tool(or big longnose pliers).

Before you jack up the car make sure it's in gear and you put a brick or something at the front wheels to stop the car rolling and also slightly loosen the wheel bolts.

Release the electronic parking break. To do this hold the start button without pressing the clutch pedal to turn on ignition, now press the hand brake switch and turn off the ignition. If you've done it right a buzzer will sound when you open the door.

From here on its just the same as most cars. The electronic motor does not need to be removed or unplugged. The piston windsback clockwise by applying force at the sametime.

It can be slightly tricky getting the new pads in place with the small wire combined wear sensor/spring but you just need to push in at a slight angle to tension the sprung metal bits and they fit snuggly. Do not leave these out or the pads may rattle.

I'm no expert so don't take my advice as such.

Cheers

Stuart
