Hi. Today I've been looking at an '08 plate diesel 1.6 manual that I am considering buying.
When I took it for a test drive, I noticed I was getting dripped on. It was only a few drops of water, but I couldn't recall if the drip started just after I'd activated the windscreen wash. It seemed to be coming from the top right of the windscreen.
I couldn't spot any water damage inside the car, except that on the O/S side of the driver's seat the foam has gone rock hard. There wasn't any noticeable water staining on the upholstery. The dealers seemed like nice enough blokes (father/son), but when I asked about the seat both gave differing responses. One said it had sunk so they'd put new foam in, but the other said it had probably just degraded over time.
1. Is seat foam hardening common? Is it possible this is due to water ingress?
2. Are windscreen leaks at all common? Is it likely to be the sealing of the windsreen, or has anyone experienced this with condensation?
I'm not wholly sure what to do. I'm not an expert - but apart from this and the car being due a cambelt change, the car seems fine. Short of pouring a bottle of water of the affected area and seeing if it leaks in, I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm also unsure if I'm confident enough to suggest that to the dealer.![]()
