I have 17" alloys with summer tyres on, but expect to spend most of the winter in the Alps.
I've looked through the Forums but there is nothing that I see that makes any direct observations or recommendations.
Looking at Wheel and Tyre options I've been given lots of contradicting information.
I'd like to use steel wheels but it appears 17" steel rims are hard to come by; I just been quoted £91 bu a local Citroen Dealer (I may as well buy Alloys).
The original fitment is 205/55-17 (ie on 17" alloy rim). These are the only ones listed on the pressure info sticker by the driver's door.
Online I see many options for steel wheels showing 205/60-16 (ie on 16" rim)
My local Citroen dealer variously quoted 17" steel rims with 205/50 or 205/55 winter tyres or Michelin Crossclimate tyres (I don't want all weather tyres).
Alternate dealer 16" steel rims with 205/60 or 215/55 with winter tyres.
Online mostly it appears to be 16" Steel rims with 205/60 tyres.
I note that the VTR vs the Exclusive (which I have) of the same year lists 16" Viper Alloys with 205/60-16 as opposed to the 17" BOA Alloys with 206/55-17 which are on my vehicle.
205/60-16 tyre diameter is 652mm whereas 205/55-17 is 657mm.
The Rim widths differ too. 17"x7 ET 50 versus 16"x6.5 ET47
Is this likely to cause any problem with handling?
Any issue with the Speedo - I assume a minor difference is within tolerance?
TPMS (tyre pressure monitor system) I understand works off the ABS so there are no monitors actually in the valve.
Is the suspension tuned differently?
Does anyone have some experience/recommendations/comments?
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get the whole story upfront.
Rory
